How do you go about choosing the right web host?

There are several things that you should consider:

  • Cost
  • Amount of Web Space
  • Reliability
  • Speed/Bandwidth
  • Tech support

Nowadays you want to make sure that your host provides you with some type of control panel (Cpanel being the most common). The control panel is where you will manage your site, such as email accounts, FTP accounts and software installations.

When it comes to price, most web hosting companies will offer a discount when paying by the year, quarterly and semi-quarterly over month to month.

I always recommend before signing up with a hosting company to try and reach them physically either by phone or by chat. This will give you a general idea on how well their technical support is. If the only communicate via email, I would stay away. One of the biggest complaints among business owners I hear, is how bad their hosting companies technical support is.

This is just a brief summary on how to pick a hosting company. Take your time, look around and really get a feel for what you’re paying for.
